ECON 39902. ECONOMICS OF INEQUALITY In this course, we will develop the empirical tools and economic theories necessary to understand multiple forms of inequality, with a particular focus on income and wealth inequality. While much of the discussion will be relevant to the United States and high-income economies, the course will also examine trends in global income inequality. We will study inequality both in terms of aggregate distributions and stratification by race/ethnicity and gender. Class discussions, writing assignments, and data exercises will explore historical trends in inequality, critically compare theoretical explanations for inequality across different schools of economic thought, and debate policy solutions.
