FREN 22000. BETWEEN THE LINES: FRENCH/FRANCOPHONE TEXT, IMAGE, AND FILM This course explores a sampling of authors and works that have helped to shape French and Francophone thought and cultures from the Renaissance to the present day. Students will develop an understanding of selected texts important literary, philosophical, historical, and cultural contexts. Students will acquire a broadened palette of analytical tools that will enable them to become skilled readers of multiple kinds of texts: poetry and prose, but also historical documents, films, editorials, political speeches, etc. Through extended classroom discussions and a sustained focus on textual analysis and writing, this course seeks to help students improve their linguistic and analytical skills, preparing for more advanced coursework in French and Francophone Studies.
