RELS 26953. RELIGION AND RESISTANCE At their best religions are wellsprings of human liberation and sources of resistance to oppression. Sadly however, religions are not always at their best. This course explores the relationship between religion and resistance, with a focus on Christianity and Indigeneity in America. The course is organized around three primary movements: Black Lives Matter, AIM (the American Indian Movement), and Queer Liberation. Our framing questions are: How are religion and resistance related? Is religion a force for liberation? Or oppression? How do people and movements resist oppression and promote liberation? How will we resist oppression and promote liberation? What oppressions are we resisting? What is at stake?
