MUST-11000 INTRODUCTION TO MUSEUM STUDIES This course offers an introduction to critical museum scholarship, interrogating the concept of the museum and exploring key questions around the politics of representing people and communities in museums, the role museums play in communities and nation-building projects, and the process of building and maintaining collections. The course traces the history of museums and their evolution, and covers art museums, science museums, heritiage museums, as well as significant temporary exhibitions that shape discussions about art, national representation and politics, and institutionalization. Students will learn key theories in museum studies and develop a register of museum vocabulary. [HSS, D]
