IDPT 19935 Belonging STEM You belong in STEM. Each of us has a journey as we work toward our career goals. Sometimes we question ourselves along the journey, wondering if we fit into a particular major or career path. Because we may not see others like us as role models paving the way, we can begin to doubt ourselves. But through this vulnerability, we can find a sense of belonging. This course will explore the idea of representation in STEM fields (e.g., gender, race, sexuality, culture, class, and disabilities). Investigating these complicated issues and questions will require us to reflect on our personal journeys and perspectives, and to wrestle with the challenges that we each undergo in fostering our own STEM identity. We will discuss interdisciplinary topics including, but not limited to, the meaning of belonging, belonging uncertainty, historical achievement in the STEM fields, stereotypes in STEM, implicit bias, microaggressions, imposter phenomenon, resetting classroom norms, and the creatio
