SOCI 29902. SOCIOLOGY OF IMMIGRATION Immigration continues to be one of the most significant social forces of U.S. society, shaping its cultural, economic, and political institutions. Contemporary migration patterns from Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, and other regions of the world are also contributing to changes in the U.S. racial and ethnic landscape, and the definition of what it means to be "American." Special attention will be given to the economic and cultural integration of immigrants, the plight of second and later generation ethnic Americans, as well as the impact of race and immigration policy on the immigrant experience in the United States.
