ENGL 16014. PERFORMING THE REAL: WRITING TRUE STORIES FOR THE STAGE Too often, we think of the theatre as a medium of entertainment and, consequently, fiction. This class will provide an overview of the ways theatre represents real life. More specifically, well examine how theatre texts might work as processes of inquiry, platforms for discussion, and products of research. Ultimately, we will consider how broad notions of performance offer ways of decolonizing knowledge and art. Students can expect to read across a large spectrum of identity representation while writing about research-based performance pieces and devising their own. [AH, W]
