SPAN 31103. DON JUAN IN THE SPANISH CULTURAL IMAGINARY An examination of Don Juan (the mythical Spanish seducer of women) from a literary, cultural, and sociological perspective. The course examines several portrayals of Don Juan from the mid-nineteenth century to the present and explores the cultural phenomenon of donjuanismo in Spain and parts of Latin America. The course uses a feminist approach to bring into focus topics related to patriarchy, toxic masculinity, misogyny, and gaslighting in a contextually relevant and grounded way. Students encouraged to draw connections to the contemporary cultural milieu. [AH, W]
