SPAN 27503. SPANISH AMERICAN SHORT STORY. This course will use the short story genre to trace the evolution of Latin American narrative through successive literary movements of the 20th and 21rst-centuries via reading, discussion and analysis of representative works of short fiction. Course readings will cover a wide range of styles and themes, from classic works by well-known writers such as Horacio Quiroga and Jorge Luis Borges to the work of emerging authors like Samanta Schweblin, as well as works by outstanding U.S. Latinx writers.
