NEUR 39901. NEUROBIOLOGY OF SUBSTANCE ABUSE DISORDERS Substance use disorders are a complex and debilitating set of disorders that affect millions of people in the US, and worldwide. Using peer-reviewed literature as the primary source of information, this class will focus on better understanding the molecular and behavioral mechanisms that underlie substance use disorders. Alcohol, stimulants, opiates, and hallucinogens (among others) will be discussed in depth. Learning and behavior, neuropharmacology, and animal models used to investigate substance use disorders will also be deeply integrated throughout the class. Prerequisite: NEUR-20000.
