SEMINAR IN MUSIC: CONTEMPORARY MUSIC BY WOMEN This listening- and writing-intensive seminar is designed to introduce students to music composed by women within the past ten years. We will focus on early- to mid-career composers-specifically composers in their forties and younger. The goal of this class is not to introduce students to every woman who has composed a piece of music in the past ten years, nor is it to select the best pieces or composers who are active today. Rather, we will listen to and discuss twenty works by twenty different composers in a variety of styles and instrumentations as a small example of music being composed today. Course activities will include listening, reading, discussion, writing, and presentations.
