French 102 is designed for students who had a semester of French and is intended to provide a foundation in basic speaking, listening, writing, and reading skills. Conducted entirely in French, the class meets three times per week. Students are expected to attend class regularly and to prepare outside of the classroom. For every hour of class time, it is reasonable to expect to spend two to three hours working outside of class. Some students may need to spend additional time in order to achieve their desired results.
COURSE
OBJECTIVES
- Provide a
foundation in basic speaking, listening, writing, and reading skills.
- Develop strategies to communicate effectively with cultural appropriateness.
- Familiarize students with complex grammatical structures of the French
language.
- Gain a broader understanding of Francophone cultures.
Our course objectives are closely tied to the College of Wooster’s graduate qualities, most importantly: independent thinking (connect what you learn in French to other courses and to your life experiences; understand the basics of sentence structure as they relate to other languages you speak); integrative, collaborative inquiry (problem solve with others in a linguistically and culturally rich environment); and reflective learning (question the beliefs and opinions of your native culture; develop a deeper capacity for intercultural awareness).
